Response of MCS Low-Frequency Gravity Waves to Vertical Wind Shear and Nocturnal Thermodynamic Environments

چکیده

Abstract This study investigates the sensitivities of mesoscale convective system (MCS) low-frequency gravity waves to changes in vertical wind and thermodynamic profile through idealized cloud model simulations, highlighting how internal MCS processes impact wave generation, propagation, environmental influence. Spectral analysis is performed on rates latent heat release, updraft velocity, deep-tropospheric descent ahead convection as a signal for wavenumber passage. Results show that perturbations midlevel up 100 km occur at same frequency generation prompted by fluctuations release due cellular variations updrafts. Within nocturnal environment, cellularity updrafts increases, subsequently increasing generation. In an environment with low-level unidirectional shear, results indicate mechanisms influence are similar among simulated daytime MCSs. When deep shear incorporated, many strong enough support development well sustain convection.

Surface gravity waves in deep fluid at vertical shear flows

Special features of surface gravity waves in deep fluid flow with constant vertical shear of velocity is studied. It is found that the mean flow velocity shear leads to non-trivial modification of surface gravity wave modes dispersive characteristics. Moreover, the shear induces generation of surface gravity waves by internal vortex mode perturbations. The performed analytical and numerical stu...

Rapid Local Changes in Helicity and Vertical Wind Shear Associated with the Passage of Ducted Gravity Waves

Ducted gravity waves are associated with potentially large perturbations in horizontal winds. It may be shown, neglecting friction, that these perturbations are maximized at the surface and minimized at the top of the wave duct, producing perturbation vertical wind shear as well. The magnitude of this shear is maximized in the wave ridge and the wave trough. The perturbation shear may be signif...

Investigation of vertical wavenumber and frequency spectra of gravity-wave-induced vertical wind and temperature perturbations

233 hours of high-precision vertical wind and temperature measurements in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere (MLT) were used to study the spectra of gravity wave perturbations in the mesopause region. The temperature spectra are generally consistent with the theoretical predictions of gravity wave theory. The averaged slope of the frequency (f) spectra is –1.83±0.08, while the slope of the v...

Atmospheric Layers in Response to the Propagation of Gravity Waves under Nonisothermal, Wind-shear, and Dissipative Conditions

We study the atmospheric structure in response to the propagation of gravity waves under nonisothermal (nonzero vertical temperature gradient), wind-shear (nonzero vertical zonal/meridional wind speed gradients), and dissipative (nonzero molecular viscosity and thermal conduction) conditions. As an alternative to the “complex wave-frequency” model proposed by Vadas and Fritts, we employ the tra...

Low-frequency waves in the Martian magnetosphere and their response to upstream solar wind driving conditions

We characterize low-frequency plasma waves in the Martian magnetosphere and in the upstream region by using transport ratios. To compute the transport ratios, we use Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN mission’s (MAVEN) solar wind ion analyzer and suprathermal and thermal ion composition instrument measurements of the ion moments and the magnetometer measurements of the magnetic field. We fi...
